Here's Where You Should Start
Quick introduction about me and what I'm doing here.
Last updated: 23rd May 2024
Hi!
I’m Demi, a 4th-year computer science student specialising in the intersection of:
music theory
software engineering
human-computer interaction
data science
I’m also an avid musician (piano) and composer!
On The Techie Journal, I write about my thoughts, experiences and realities as a CS student.
What to expect
I post weekly on Fridays at around 9am.
My posts are approximately a 4-5 minute read.
I have a blog where I write longer articles.
Admittedly, I’m still trying to figure out where the blog fits in the writing stack. Stay tuned for updates on that.
Topics
Discussion topics stem directly from my own interests and experiences:
Technology from a holistic POV
Media
Building new things
Skills and habits
Productivity
Coding
Could be anything of the above, or something completely random.
What’s my writing style like?
I write how I speak: informal and insightful. My writing is fairly easy to read for any given audience. It’s also pretty informative.
Let’s address the backlog
I’ve written a few posts on different things, such as the tech layoffs, AI and big tech.
My writing style has developed over time, and those posts, whilst good, don’t reflect the new change.
I won’t delete them, as I enjoy seeing my journey evolve. But I don’t really write like I did in my 2023 posts.
Should I subscribe?
Yes pls :)
If you’re interested in who I am as a person, subscribe.
I wouldn’t say I have a niche. I guess my niche is sharing my lessons through the experiences I’m going through.
Overall, I’m just an interesting person with a lot of thoughts that I wanna share.
Quick side note.
I’ve taken many breaks from writing, but it’s always been a huge part of my identity. Whether offline or online.
I’ve felt the pull to return to writing online, however much I can. But here’s my one rule with this:
My writing career has to be sustainable.
To ensure this, my main focuses are:
Write good content
Make it visible
Don’t quit
Nothing more.
I’m not too concerned with optimising for growth. So you won’t catch me adhering to the typical growth hacks that are often pretty shady.
I don’t plan to use paywalls on Substack at the moment. But it would be nice to turn subscriptions on! Update - They are on!
Feel free to subscribe as a paid member. I don’t have any additional perks apart from my eternal gratitude.
That’s it from me.
For current subscribers, thank you for sticking around. I appreciate it. For new ones, welcome! You’re in for a fun ride.
With that, I say adieu.
